The clearest signal was the one at the center of his cardiovascular picture. Kirk’s resting heart rate had been trending around 65 beats per minute. Over the engagement it fell, first to 63 and 64, then to 62, and finally to a 58, the lowest resting heart rate his tracker had ever recorded for him. In one recent stretch he logged a 59 twice and then a 58, a clean run of all-time lows rather than a single lucky night.

From an HRV baseline that was already among the strongest Andrés had seen, Kirk climbed to 154, one of his highest scores ever and his best monthly average on record. His sleep score followed, reaching a 91 percent average for the month. As he put it watching the review: “what you just did right now, going through the Haberdash, stats on the whoop, that’s really good.”

If the resting heart rate told the obvious story, the rest of the recovery data told the deeper one. Heart rate variability, the beat-to-beat variation that reflects how well the nervous system handles stress, started from an unusually strong baseline of 130 to 140. That made the next move all the more notable. Kirk climbed to a 154, one of the highest scores he had ever tracked and his best monthly average on record.

His sleep followed the same arc. In the first week of coaching his average sleep score sat at 81 percent. By the end of the engagement it reached a 91 percent average for the month, the highest he had recorded. Underneath both of those gains was a quieter change in how he breathed overnight. His sleep respiratory rate, a sensitive marker of how relaxed the body is at rest, came down from around 18 breaths per minute into the mid 16s, with several nights touching 15.
